Anyone can travel. There are no secrets, really. The way to begin to travel or do so continuously is by making it a priority. What does this mean? It means you have to make opportunities to travel. The process can begin by doing online research and networking with other travelers. It can be by working an extra job or cutting unnecessary expenses to help pay for your trip. It can be by informing your boss of your vacation plans or simply quitting your job to pursue the nomadic lifestyle. It can really be anything, and you have to start somewhere. The most important thing is your motivation to start and commit yourself to making travel happen as little or as often as you want.
Before I moved abroad and emerged into a nomadic lifestyle, I saved every single penny and placed any effort I could to make my initial trip happen. I decided to move to Turkey although I knew nothing about the country (except for the internationally known Turkish singer, Tarkan). đ I motivated myself by researching about living expenses and finding out how I could make money abroad. I decided to change my life and make it an adventure everyday! I literally quit my job on a Friday, moved back to my hometown on the Saturday, and boarded my flight the following Wednesday. That was the boldest move I ever made and it led me to experience living in 3 continents and visiting over 60 countries just so far. Sometimes you have to move fast to accomplish your travel goals. My advice is to not think too much, just do it!
Moreover, I never thought too much and didnât pay attention to the media about travel. Sometimes I feel that people make it seem like travelling requires a lot of money, and blah blah blah. Itâs not always true. I have spent less money living abroad and travelling extensively than I would if I stayed in the USA living a typical lifestyle with the 9AM-5PM job. Of course, if youâre from a developed western country and travel elsewhere, life tends to be cheaper anyways. It works out well to live an adventurous life at an affordable cost. Do your research and see what works for you.
If you want to travel more, you really have to reflect upon your lifestyle and figure out whatâs stopping you from travelling. A few common travel setbacks are money, time, visas, and motivation. These challenges will be discussed in future blog posts. For now, just be aware about what obstacles prevent you from travelling and what you can do about it to get closer to your goal. For example, if travel visas are difficult to obtain in your country, perhaps start to research online or network with others who have accomplished obtaining your visa of interest. Again, you have to start somewhere.
Furthermore, you donât have to be like me or any other nomad who is constantly on the move and exploring. Make the choice about how often you would like to travel. Is it once a year, a few times a year, or do you want to simply live a nomadic lifestyle? Know what you want and then work towards your goal. Discover what you want and see if it fits YOU. No matter your choice, make sure you know that an ongoing travel lifestyle is not for everyone. Constantly moving around takes time, effort, and will to adapt to different environments quickly. Sometimes you have to sacrifice comfort, a permanent prestigious job, or seeing your family and friends.
Overall, travelling is worth it. You really learn a lot about who you are and that there is so much out there; the world is really bigger than you and your bubble! Travel can sometimes lead to a massive inspiration and encourage you to do the things youâve always dreamed. I strongly believe in âyou only live onceâ and âwhere thereâs a will, thereâs a way.â This blog will focus on leading the way to a travel lifestyle. Itâs your choice to make it happen.
